No Run Today

I had 5 miles on the schedule for this morning but there were a few things that prevented me from getting out of bed:

1) My legs are still so sore from cycling the other day and then running yesterday that I felt like I needed to rest them today. Don't want to injure myself so I'm taking extra care.

2) My husbands work phone rang at like 1:00 in the morning and he has the volume up the highest it will go so I thought my heart was going to pop out of my chest when it rang. See when a pump goes down they have this auto dialer that calls different people to let them know that it went down. Love it when it does that in the middle of the night. Really.

3) Phone rang AGAIN right as I was starting to nod off.

4) Husband starting snoring at various times throughout the night and I think at one point I told him if he didn't stop I was going to kill him.... maybe I said that, but then again anything said in the middle of the night cannot be held against you. We learned that from the newborn baby months.

By the time my alarm went off I could have totally gotten up but I just wasn't feeling it. I am also cursed with being a light sleeper so any little noise made in the middle of the night I'm usually going to wake up to. Ironically Sophie sleeps through the night (FINALLY!) but Ricky has turned into a snorer, not to mention the dog also snores. And for some reason the last week and a half I have not been sleeping well. That's another thing I go through every couple of months. I can fall asleep almost instantly but cannot stay asleep.

So I'm swapping my Friday rest day with today and running my 5 miles tomorrow and 3 miles on Friday. I'm OK with this because Saturday's long run is only going to be 6 miles so I don't feel it's too much.

Yesterday Ricky bought me a bike for $50 off of craigslist! I want to be able to go for a bike ride on my cross train days (which are typically Sundays) and not be stuck in the gym when the weather starts turning cooler. Plus there aren't any spin classes at the gym on Sundays and I get really bored on the elliptical. So I'm very excited to have a bike, I honestly haven't owned one in forever. Nor ridden one so we'll see if it's "just like riding a bike."

My new (used) bike:

This morning was 66 degrees when I left the house at 7:00. Felt so good to step out of the house and not immediately start sweating. However as I was driving to work I wished I could be out running in this glorious morning. Oh well. Maybe Saturday morning will be this nice.

Week 3 Begins

Well, it actually already began like 2 days ago but with this three day weekend I'm all behind on my days.

This morning's run: 3.05 miles, 24:52, avg pace 8:09

I opted out of doing any weights since I did some yesterday so after my run I hopped on the elliptical for about 15 minutes and then did abs.

My legs felt so heavy getting started this morning, I'm still sore from cycle. I tried to run fast, wanted to get under an 8 minute mile avg pace but that didn't happen like I planned.

Then it was back to work and back to school this morning. Poor Sophie did not want to wake up and was kind of grumpy but I think she'll have fun being back at daycare and playing with her friends. Mommy and Daddy can only be so entertaining.

Walking around work today is quite a challenge. I wouldn't even call it walking, more like hobbling. It's a good sore though.

This week is going to be a busy one at work and I'm very much looking forward for a three day weekend at the beach next week.

Marathon Training Week 2 Review

A short review of Week 2:

Day 1 - Rest day

Day 2 - Day 2 - 3.15 miles, 26:14, avg pace 8:19

Treadmill run at the gym.

Day 3 - 5.24 miles, 43:01, avg pace 8:12
Treadmill run at the gym, again.

Day 4 - 3 miles  Rest

Did not make it up to get to the gym so I planned on running after work. That ended up not happening because my husband had to work late. So I decided to make this run up the next morning.

Day 5 - Rest 3.2 miles, 26:41, avg pace 8:19

Day 6 - 9.01 miles, 1:26:15, avg pace 9:34
Warm and humid morning but I got it done! I felt pretty good overall.

So far training is going good. Next weeks long run will only be 6 miles and then I start to bump it up to 11 miles the week after (which I will be at the beach and that will be nice to run at Edisto Island, very pretty there).

Weathermen Are Liars

Yesterday morning I woke up, checked the weather, and decided it would be an awesome beach day. According to weather.com they were forcasting 85 degrees and 20% chance of rain. Perfect day!

I should have been a meteorologist. I could totally botch the weather and still have a job because when we got to the beach it was cloudy and storms were brewing off the coast. We even saw a potential water spout. After 2 hours and no clearing in our future, we packed it up and headed home.

On the way home it poured. Like flash flood poured. I guess that was the 20% right there. For the rest of the afternoon it was cloudy. Sun tried to peak out yesterday late afternoon but overall it wasn't a great day. Thanks weather people, the things I could have gotten done around the house. Oh well.

Then of course today was supposed to be the rainy, crappy day. I even forwent the morning run on the trail because they said there were going to be morning showers. Wrong again forecasters. Seriously, to be wrong half the time and still hold a job, I missed my calling.

Oh well, Sophie still had a blast at the beach yesterday.

Onto training:

Saturday morning I did my 9 mile long run. It went pretty well, it wasn't as cool as the damn weather people originally forecasted (you see a theme here). Instead of the 69 degrees we were supposed to have, it was 72 when I started out and kind of humid.

9.01 miles, 1:26:15, avg pace 9:34

Spilts:
Mile 1 9:24
Mile 2 9:28
Mile 3 9:40
Mile 4 9:28
Mile 5 9:47
Mile 6 9:51
Mile 7 9:38
Mile 8 9:18
Mile 9 9:33

I felt good overall but kind of tired. I feel like if I took the day before off like my training called for maybe I would have felt better. Not sure, but I do know that I hate running in warm humid weather. It zaps the energy right from me. Ready for Fall. I say that a lot but I'm ready for it to be cooler in the morning.

Yesterday I had a rest day mainly because my legs felt tired when I woke up and we had decided to go to the beach. When we got home I was going to head to the gym but my poor husband got called in for work due to an issue with one of his pumps. He didn't get home till 8:30, poor guy. Then I was going to go on a walk with Sophie but to be totally honest, I was tired and lazy so we just hung out and played.

Today was cross training day and I did my first cycle class in like a year. It was tough but a good tough! My legs welcomed the change. I then tried to get a couple of miles in after but was legs were a bit wobbly. Plus I have to keep reminding myself that cross train days should be run free.... that's kind of difficult but I need to remember to give myself a break.

Before cycle I did some weights and then I did some more weights after cycle. A great workout overall. So I'll be ready for my 3 miles bright and early tomorrow morning! Actually it won't be bright and early, it'll be dark and early.

It was nice to not have to go to work today and I'm looking forward to a short week this week. Also next week I'll be at Edisto Beach Friday through Sunday with my in-laws. Summer is ending which makes me sad because I love going to the beach so much but again, I'm ready for cooler weather!

Happy Labor Day Weekend!

Make Up Run

I missed my 3 mile run yesterday due to my inability to get out of bed and then again last night when the shit hit the fan, literally, at my husbands job. Poor guy didn't get home till 9:00 last night.

Let me just clarify that he's not in the poop business directly, he rents and sells pumps. One of his biggest markets are the waste treatment plants...basically to pump it all through the sewer. Gross I know so I'll stop right there.

I redeemed myself this morning and made it to the gym to knock out 3.2 (with hills) on my dear friend the treadmill. I also did some abs and a quick weight routine. Tomorrow is my 9 mile long run, which I'm very excited about because it's going to be another 70 degree morning.

Tired but a good run overall. 3.2 miles, 26:41, avg pace 8:19.

Didn't Happen

Well this evenings run did not happen. My husband called and was stuck in Columbia, SC on a jobsite. So that meant that, after sitting in traffic, I had to make dinner and do bedtime routine alone.

It's all good, I will just have to go tomorrow morning and do an easy run.

This is how life is sometimes and I just gotta roll with it.

It's Official

I have taken the plunge and registered for the Charleston Marathon. I didn't have the heart palpitations I was expecting I would experience when I clicked the submit button, however my stomach started to hurt after I got the confirmation e-mail.

I'm my own worst enemy boys and girls. If this race doesn't kill me my negativity will! Kidding of course.

I was supposed to run 3 miles this morning. My head was saying "yes" but my body was telling me "NO!!!!!!!!" So I listened to my body and slept an extra hour. Of course I was mad at myself when I got up because I could have totally gone to the gym.

I plan on doing the 3 miles this evening in my neighborhood. It'll be hot but I gotta stick to my plan! Otherwise I have to get up tomorrow and I don't want to run the day before my long run.

Of course running this evening depends on how traffic is, how grouchy child is, how tired I am. I think my husband is going to ride his bike while I run. I'm hoping this helps motivate me because I'm usually pretty tired when I get home.

And please excuse any type-o's or misspelled words as I am typing this with one contact in.
